Bataan Travel Guide: Where History Meets Nature And The Beach!

Bataan Travel Guide: Where History Meets Nature And The Beach!

There’s an abundance of nature bound destinations in the Philippines that even when you’re based in the capital, you don’t need to look far and wide for an excursion that offers a welcome break from the fast-paced life of the metro. Luckily if you’re based in Manila, you could choose to head whichever direction your wanderlust feels like chasing and still end up in paradise.

If the north is in your radar for your next getaway, one of the most notable destinations in that part of the continent is Bataan – a province in the Central Luzon that resonates with the historic upheavals the country has seen during the World War era and “houses” some of the country’s best-preserved heritage sites. For just a few hours drive (2.5 hours or more), not only will you be able to enjoy the beach, but also be closer to nature, and be transported back in time.

How to get to Bataan

Bataan is about 124 kilometers away from Manila and is easily accessible either by land or by sea.

By private transport

Bataan is made more accessible for people driving from Manila via the Subic Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and North Luzon Expressway. From San Fernando, exit to Jose Abad Santos (aka Olangapo-GApan Road) going to Lubao Pampanga and Dinalupihan Bataan. When you reach the Layac Junction, turn left to Roman Super Highway which will lead to the City Center of Balanga, Bataan.  If via SCTEX, take the Dinalupihan exit and turn right at Roman Super Highway.

The travel time will be between 2-3 hours by public vehicle, despite the traffic condition. Leaving early in the morning from Manila is the best way to avoid the rush hour.
