 DepEd Declares 2-Week Christmas Break: Dec 18, 2023 – Jan 2, 2024

Summary

The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced a two-week Christmas break for public elementary and high school students nationwide, from December 18, 2023, to January 2, 2024. Private schools have the flexibility to adjust their holiday breaks, as long as they meet the minimum requirement of 200 school days.

Public elementary and high school students nationwide are set to enjoy a two-week Christmas break starting from December 18, 2023, until January 2, 2024, as announced by the Department of Education (DepEd).

The school break is part of the academic calendar for the 2023-2024 school year, which was released by Vice President and concurrent Education Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio in August.

Private schools, however, have the flexibility to begin or extend their Christmas breaks, deviating from the official calendar.

DepEd emphasized this flexibility at the start of the academic term, with the condition that they adhere to the minimum requirement of 200 school days throughout the academic year.

According to DepEd Order No. 22 s. of 2023, titled “Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities for the School Year 2023-2024,” classes in public schools will resume on January 3, 2024.

The current academic year officially commenced on August 29, 2023, and is scheduled to conclude on June 14, 2024.

This information ensures clarity on the holiday schedule for public school students during the festive season.
