Expanded Maternity Leave Signed Into Law

President Rodrigo Duterte has signed the Expanded Maternity Leave Act which will provide longer maternity leave to all working mothers, from 60 days to 105 days.

In addition to the extended paid maternity leave, a 30-day unpaid leave is also added as an option. The bill also grants an additional 15 days of paid maternity leave to employees who are solo mothers.

The maternity law will give female workers in the government and private sectors 105 days of paid maternity leave credits regardless of the type of childbirth. The current law only allows a 60-day paid maternity leave for normal childbirth and 78 days for cesarean delivery.
