How To Get The G-Cash MasterCard

According to 2020 data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), 51.2 million Filipinos don’t have a bank account. Among the reasons were lack of funds, lacking documentary requirements, and no urgent need for one. Those are valid points for not having an account, especially since the pandemic has accelerated changes in the financial landscape.. 

Need a debit card but don’t have a bank account? No worries. GCash has further expanded its e-wallet features to include the GCash Mastercard. A physical prepaid debit card.

What is a GCash Mastercard?

GCash Mastercard is a prepaid debit card powered by Globe and runs on the Mastercard payment system. This card can be used like a regular debit card that you get from a bank – you can pay for purchases both online and in-store, withdraw money, and deposit money into it. It possesses all the physical features of a regular debit and credit card – it contains an EMV chip, a card number, expiry date, and CVV.

The only difference between this card and a regular debit card is that it’s not directly issued by a bank. For one, you can easily get a GCash Mastercard from a convenience store (7-11). If you’re familiar with PayMaya, the first non-bank issuer of a prepaid debit card, GCash Mastercard is Globe’s version of it. 

How to apply for a GCash MasterCard?

There are three ways to get Gcash, Mastercard, through the app, the website, or from a partner convenience store. 

Gcash App

1. Log in to your app.
2. On the dashboard, tap the “View All Gcash Services” option.
3. Under the “Fund Management” category, tap the “Cash-Out” option. This will lead you to a page that has various options for you to withdraw money from your GCash account. 
4. One of the options on this page is the “GCash Mastercard”. Choose whether you want to have it delivered to your address or just collect it from their partner stores.

   If you choose “Pick Up” you will only be given a list of partner stores where you can buy the Gcash Mastercard.
   
   
5. If you choose “Deliver”, you will be taken to a form that you need to fill up. Read through the instructions first before completely filling out the form.
   
6. After filling out the form, read the instructions, and the terms and conditions. Then tick the box beside it, and tap the arrow right button at the bottom of the page.
   
7. An order number will be displayed on the next page and you will need to pay ₱215 for the card through the GCash App. 
8. After you’ve paid, you will receive an SMS notification confirming your order and the delivery of your card. It will take 10 business days from the confirmation of the payment to receive your card. 
   

Applying GCash Mastercard online

If you’d rather apply for a Gcash Mastercard through a browser, here’s how:

1. Go to this link: https://www.gcash.com/mc-store/orders.
2. Read the instructions and fill out the necessary information. The whole page is basically the same as the one from the App. 
3. After filling out the form, read the instructions, and the terms and conditions. Then tick the box beside it and tap the arrow right button at the bottom of the page.
4. An order number will be displayed on the next page and you will need to pay ₱215 for the card through the GCash App. 
5. After you’ve paid, you will receive an SMS notification confirming your order and the delivery of your card. It will take 10 business days from the confirmation of the payment to receive your card. 

How to pay your GCash Mastercard order

The payment should be made through your GCash app. Here’s how:

1. Tap “Pay Bills” on your dashboard.
   
2. Scroll down and find the “Payment Solutions” item from one of the biller categories options.
   
3. A list of Payment Solutions providers will populate, scroll down or search for “Gcash Mastercard”.
   
4. Fill up the needed information, then tap the “Next” button on the upper right part of your screen. 
   
5. Note: Your Gcash must have a balance of ₱215  (₱150 for card + ₱65 for a delivery fee) for the payment to go through. 
6. Once done, a confirmation SMS will be sent to you along with your order’s reference number.

Applying for GCash Mastercard from partner stores

You can simply walk into the country of the following retail stores to get the GCash Mastercard:

• Ministop
• Lawson
• All Day
• Robinsons Business Centers
• Selected 7-Eleven branches 

The registration and activation of the card will be done at the counter, and the fee is only ₱150 since there will be no delivery fees included.
