Jeepney Fare Now Back To ₱9
Following the consecutive fuel price rollback, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has announced yesterday (Monday) to lower the minimum fares for jeepneys in the National Capital Region, Central Luzon (Region III), and Calabarzon and Mimaropa (Region IV).
It was just recently that the agency announced an increase in jeepney fare to aid Public Utility Jeepney (PUJ) drivers with the rising fuel price. However, due to the successive decline of the fuel price, the pump prices in the past weeks have also gone down. Due to this, the LTFRB also felt it was just fair to rollback the base fare from ₱10 to ₱9. Thus, they released Resolution No. 91, which provisions the rollback of the base fare to ₱9.
The jeepney minimum fare is temporarily back to ₱9 in the National Capital Region, Central Luzon (Region III), and Calabarzon and Mimaropa (Region IV) starting Tuesday. The order to lower the fares was issued on Monday and published on Tuesday.
According to LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra, after the prices of fuel have peaked in October, it has seen a tremendous decrease in prices. Transport Secretary Tugade then directed LTFRB to rollback the fare rate.
This month, Dubai crude oil has gone down to $68 per barrel from $79 in October, which is a 14% difference.
