ID card with Philippine Flag

National ID System Approved On 3rd And Final Reading

On March 19, Monday, the senate approved the National ID System for a third and final reading.  The Senate Bill No. 1738, or the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Act of 2018 was only opposed by Senators Francis Pangilinan and Risa Hontiveros.

Senator Panfilo Lacson, the sponsor of this Senate measure is hoping that the House would adopt this bill to have it turned into an official bill by next week. Only the President’s signature is needed to make that happen. The legislation of this bill seem to be bright as the Presidential Spokesperson announced that it will get the President’s backing.

The Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Act of 2018 aims to institute a single official identification card for all Filipinos and even foreign residents in the country. This will make transactions with government and private institutions easier.  Additionally, the national ID system will help prevent criminality without obstructing initiatives that will stop security threats to the government.

This soon-to-be-bill will provide a unique and permanent ID number to every Filipino and resident alien. The identification number will be called the Philsys number (PSN).
