SSS To Offer Payment Extensions And Unemployment Benefits Filing Online

The Social Security System announced earlier on Monday that it will be extending its deadline for contributions and loans due to the lockdown in Luzon.

Contributions for February, March, and April can be paid until June 1 without any penalties and loan payments for March and April can be paid until May according to SSS President and CEO Aurora Ignacio. This policy covers all regular and household workers.

Furthermore, the payment extension includes salary loans, calamity loans, emergency loans, and educational loans. It would also be extended should the enhanced community quarantine of Luzon go beyond April 12.

“Kung sakali man ho ma-extend ang ating quarantine period magdadagdag po tayo ng month pa para ma-extend pa [ang payment deadline”

Meanwhile, the pension for SSS members for the month of April has been released and will be fully available by the first week of the month.

On the other hand, SSS also announced that it is working to offer online filing of unemployment benefits for workers who lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 lockdown. The online filing could be available as early as April.

The Finance Department earlier said that the SSS  is “prepared” to pay up to ₱1.2 billion in unemployment benefits, assuming a worst case scenario wherein 30,000 to 60,000 jobs will be lost.

Ignacio further added:

“Minadali namin na matapos siya hanggang April na maging online filing siya at maging available sa mga empleyado na nawalan ng trabaho dahil sa COVID-19.”

The SSS has yet to come up with the final number of displaced workers due to the pandemic due to their limited workforce.
