Unionbank has always been at the forefront of digitalization in the Philippines. They were the first to integrate fully with Paypal, establish online banking, release a full-featured mobile app, and, now, open an account through their app!

Whether you want to open an account with them or you simply want to access your existing account online, you can do that with UnionBank’s mobile app. Here’s a quick but comprehensive guide on UnionBank’s online banking system.
Unionbank online banking features
UnionBank has been investing in digitalization since the dawn of Paypal, and they’re among the most online friendly banks. Their app and online portal allow you to do the following:
- Open a new account.
- Send and receive money. It can even generate a QR code to make receiving money easier.
- Deposit checks by simply scanning it with your phone.
- Manage your credit card if you have any.
- Pay your bills.
- Set up security measures to protect your account like a One-Time Password (OTP).
The types of Unionbank account you can enroll
All types of accounts with Unionbank can be enrolled through their online banking, specifically the following:
- Debit card
- Credit card
- Checking account
- Savings accounts
- UnionBank loan
- Unit Investment Trust Fund (UITF)
- Business line account
- Term deposits
Unionbank online account registration
If you already have an account with Unionbank, the next step for you to take is to register it to their online banking system. You can do that through the Unionbank Mobile App.
- Download the UnionBank Online Banking app from PlayStore (Android) or App Store (iOS).
- Once done, open the app and tap on the “Sign Up with my Existing Account” Option.
- Read the terms and conditions and tap the “Accept” button once done to move forward.
- The next screen will show you a list of Unionbank accounts, choose the type of account you own.
- Enter your account information as required then tap next.
- An OTP will be sent to you via SMS, type it in the app.
- You will then be asked to nominate a username and password for your account.
- The last part will require you to enter your phone number and email address to verify your account.
Opening a Unionbank account online
Don’t have a Unionbank account yet? Don’t worry, you can sign up for one through their app. You no longer need to travel to a branch to do so, it can all be completely done online. Here’s how:
- Download the UnionBank Online Banking app from PlayStore (Android) or App Store (iOS), if you haven’t yet.
- Open the UnionBank App then choose the option “Open an Account”.
- Choose “Savings Account with Debit Card”
- A pop-up message will appear notifying you that the account creation is only for Filipino Citizens residing in the Philippines only. Click “Continue”.
- Select from the type of savings account you prefer. The most ideal ones are the “Personal Savings” and the “Play Everyday” if you don’t want to be required to maintain a balance to keep the account active.

Fees will be waived if you manage to maintain ₱10,000 in your daily balance. - The next page will show you a reminder that states the specific requirements to open an account. Just click the “Next” button on the upper right side of the screen to proceed further.
- The next page is all about the Terms And Conditions which has about three tabs. Read and understand it carefully before tapping on the “Accept” button on the upper right side of the screen.
- The next screen will require you to enter your email and phone number.
- An OTP will be sent to your registered phone number, simply enter it as required to proceed further.
- You will be required to enter some basic information like your name and your date of birth. Click “Next” once done.
- Enter a username and password for your account.
- The next page will ask about your personal information. Enter the needed information and hit “Next”.
- The succeeding pages will be asking for the following information: Your home address, employment status, and purpose of the account. Fill them out completely and click “Next” when you’re done.
- This time, you will be required to choose a valid ID as proof of identity, take a picture of it through the app, and scan your face for facial recognition.
- The next part is your signature. Make three specimen signatures by using your fingers.
- The last page will show you a summary of your information to review before submitting it. Tick the box that says “ I agree to UnionbankBank Debit Card Terms and Conditions” then tap the “Submit” button.
- A congratulations screen will appear telling you to check your email to activate your account with the activation code.
- Go back to your app, log in to your account, and then enter the activation code to finally complete the account opening process!
This process will also automatically create an online account for your newly opened Unionbank account.
How to order a physical card after account registration
- On your dashboard, tap the small right-pointing arrow found just beside your name and your savings account’s last four digits.
- Then click “Manage Cards”.
- Choose where you want to have the card delivered and the card fee you prefer.
- Wait for five to ten business days for the card to arrive at your chosen address.
How to deposit a check through the Unionbank App.
- Tap “Deposit a Check” found on the home page/dashboard.
- Read through the “Reminders” for check deposit SOPs, scroll down, then click “Next” once you’re done going through the instructions.
- A small window will pop up showing instructions on how to scan the check properly. Just tap “Got It” to proceed further.
- Scan your check through the app and click the shutter button.
- The next page will ask you to enter the check details and choose the account where you want the check to be deposited. Tap “Next” once done.
- Review the check and details you entered to make sure they match. Tap “Deposit” once done
It will take more or less two hours for the check balance to reflect on your account.
How to add your UnionBank credit card to your online account
If you have created an online account but haven’t done so by registering your credit card, you can add it anytime once you have access to your account. Here’s how:
- On the dashboard, tap on “Manage”.
- Select the “Add Account” option, then “Add an Existing Account”, and then choose “Credit Card”.
- Enter the 16-digit number of your credit card then hit “Next”.
- Key-in the OTP sent to you via SMS.
Once done, your credit card will be among the options you can choose from your dashboard. From there, just tap on your credit card to manage it.
